If we raised taxes on the rich, we’d still have to cut spending in order to even consider remaining solvent. This is mostly just a leftist strawman that continues coming up so as to not even bother attempting austerity measures.
I’m all for targeted, reasonable, intelligent austerity measures but they, and they alone, will not dig us out of the deficit quagmire for which both parties bear responsibility —they must be combined with targeted, reasonable, and intelligent revenue increases.
Pointing out Republican hypocrisy, stubbornness, and unreasonableness on this issue is not a leftist strawman, it is reality.
